Noah Noble served in many official positions throughout Indiana. He was sheriff and a member of the State Legislature for Franklin County, Indiana. He was also Receiver of public monies for Indianapolis Land District. In 1831, he was elected Governor of the State of Indiana and was re-elected for a second term. Samuel C. Vance (d. 1830), a U.S. Army officer in the Northwest Territory, was deputy paymaster at Fort Washington, near Cincinnati (1791-1802). From 1803-1830 he was a merchant and land speculator at Lawrenceburg (Dearborn County, Ind.). Lawrence M. Vance operated a general merchandise store in Indianapolis and was a contractor for the construction of the Lawrenceburg and Upper Mississippi Railroad and other railroad lines.
